Let’s face it: the economy is rough. For home buyers, now is the best time to purchase a home for a cheap price. For home sellers, this time is not ideal! Many homeowners are not able to sell simply because their asking price may be too high. Of course, you want the best price possible for your lovely home but it is not going to be easy. As your PA home insurance agency, we have a few tips to share when it comes to selling your home this year.

1.    Up the curb appeal. The outdoor appearance of a home is one of the most important aspects. If your home looks dirty on the outside, many buyers may not give it a second glance!

2.    De-personalize your home. The goal is to have potential buyers see their family living in your home. If you have photos of your family and personal pieces all over, it may make it hard for the buyer to visualize.

3.    Add in a few bonuses. Not crazy about your current living room set? Offer to throw it in for free!

4.    Fix up the flaws. Any damages or issues should be taken care of before buyers begin to walk through. A cabinet off the hinge is not going to look appealing.

5.    Clean the clutter. Walking into a simple home is much more comforting than a home that is filled with junk. You want to show buyers that your home is spacious, which will not be apparent if you have cluttered rooms.

6.    Let there be light. Open up the shades and let in the light. A dreary home is not going to brighten the buyer’s mood.

7.    The price is right. It is important to realize that you may not get exactly what you think your home deserves due to the economy. Price accordingly and negotiate!

As a homeowner, you should know that this process is going to take time and effort. If there are no bites on your home, do not give up! Your home will eventually sell to the right person.

Until you do sell your home, it is crucial to hang on tight to your PA home insurance- even if you have already moved out! What if the neighborhood children throw a ball through the window? What happens if a storm causes damage to the roof? Without coverage in place, you may not have these damages and issues taken care of as soon as you would like. The last thing you need is an issue that is going to stall the selling process. Stay covered and stay confident!
